Wayfarer Appalachia Celebrates One Incredible Year in Tazewell, Virginia
One Year Down. An Incredible Story Just Beginning.
One Year Ago
A year ago, the doors of Wayfarer Appalachia opened on Historic Main Street in Tazewell with a big vision and a great deal of hope.
We did not simply want to open another restaurant.
We wanted to create an iconic destination.
We imagined a place where remarkable food, handcrafted drinks, live music, Appalachian culture, and genuine hospitality could come together under one roof. We wanted to build somewhere that felt special without feeling unfamiliar, a place where neighbors could gather, travelers could discover something unexpected. Musicians could bring their songs and stories to the mountains.
Most of all, we wanted to create something worthy of Tazewell.
On Sunday, June 28, 2026, we will celebrate Wayfarer Appalachia's first anniversary, and we would love for the entire community to celebrate with us.
A Big Vision for a Small Appalachian Town
Wayfarer began with a belief that rural communities deserve extraordinary experiences, too.
You should not have to leave the mountains to enjoy an intimate songwriter performance, hear nationally recognized musicians, experience an unforgettable dinner, or spend an evening in a beautiful room filled with music and conversation.
Those experiences can happen here.
They should happen here.
During our first year, Wayfarer has worked to bring new energy to Historic Main Street and give people another reason to visit the Town of Tazewell. Guests have traveled here for concerts, festivals, dinners, gatherings, celebrations, and nights they are still talking about.
They have eaten in our restaurant, enjoyed handcrafted cocktails at the bar, listened to music in the Crossroads Saloon and Velvet Room, explored nearby businesses, walked along Main Street, and discovered more of what Tazewell has to offer.
Every person who comes through our doors becomes part of a much larger story, one that says small towns can still dream boldly, create beautifully, and become destinations in their own right.
The Music Came to Main Street
What a year of music it has been.
Wayfarer has had the honor of welcoming an extraordinary range of performers to Tazewell, from Appalachian storytellers and rising regional artists to Grammy winners and nationally celebrated musicians.
Our stages have hosted Country Music Hall of Famer Charlie McCoy, whose legendary career includes recordings with some of the most recognizable names in American music, and Grammy-winning guitarist Redd Volkaert, known for his unmistakable honky-tonk sound.
We have welcomed the incredible talent of EmiSunshine, Carson Peters, and Iron Mountain, The Church Sisters, Southern Legacy, Cruz Contreras, Aristotle Jones, Rick Ferrell, The Woods, Joey Davis and the Joey Davis Band, Makenzie Phipps, Jonah Carden, and many more.
Bluegrass, gospel, country, Americana, blues, jazz, soul, Celtic music, southern rock, and even reggae have all found a home at Wayfarer.
Some nights have filled the Crossroads Saloon with the sound of a full band. Others have brought audiences close to the music during intimate House Sessions in the Velvet Room. We have watched people sing along, tap their feet, discover new artists, and leave with a new favorite song.
That is exactly what we hoped would happen.
More Than a Business, A Place to Belong
The most meaningful part of this first year has not been any single performance, dinner, or event.
It has been the people.
It has been watching friends meet for lunch, families celebrate milestones, musicians gather after a show, visitors discover Tazewell for the first time, and neighbors linger around the table because no one is quite ready for the evening to end.
It has been seeing Main Street come alive with music.
I have heard someone say, "We needed a place like this."
Wayfarer has become a gathering place because this community chose to gather here. You gave the rooms their energy. You filled the tables, supported the musicians, shared our events, brought your friends, welcomed visitors, and helped turn an ambitious idea into something real.
Thank You, Tazewell
Building something new is never easy, especially in a rural town where every investment requires faith, perseverance, and people willing to believe in the vision.
There have been long days, late nights, unexpected challenges, beautiful surprises, and countless moments when the encouragement of this community kept us moving forward.
To our employees, musicians, chefs, vendors, partners, guests, friends, and neighbors: thank you.
Thank you for eating with us. Thank you for raising a glass with us.
Thank you for attending the concerts, festivals, House Sessions, Bike Nights, community gatherings, and special events.
Thank you for sharing our posts, telling your friends, supporting our musicians, and believing that something exciting could grow on Main Street in Tazewell.
This anniversary belongs to all of you.

Here's to the First Year, and Everything Still Ahead
One year ago, Wayfarer Appalachia began as a vision.
Today, it is a restaurant, bar, live-music venue, gathering place, and growing Appalachian destination. It is a place where nationally recognized performers share stages with exceptional regional talent. It is a reason to travel to Tazewell, and another reason to be proud to call this town home.
But this is only the first chapter.
There are more songs to hear, more meals to share, more visitors to welcome, and many more stories waiting to unfold.
Here's to one unforgettable year.
Here's to Historic Main Street.
Here's to the Town of Tazewell.
And here's to the next part of the journey.
Celebrate with us on June 28, 2026.
