Arvel Bird: Where Celtic Fire Meets Appalachian Soul

Arvel Bird Live | Free Celtic, Bluegrass and Native American Music Event

Some musicians fit neatly into a genre. Arvel Bird never has.

Classically trained as a violinist, Arvel Bird has spent a lifetime shaping a sound that brings together Celtic music, bluegrass, Appalachian roots, and his own Native American folk and Celtic rock orchestrations. The result is something rare — music that feels both refined and deeply grounded, technical and emotional, worldly and close to home.

As Arvel followed the music where it led, his path carried him far beyond the classical world. Along the way, he developed a style all his own, built on years of discipline, instinct, and a deep connection to tradition. During his time in the Midwest, he won the Indiana State Fiddle Contest four times while continuing to expand the range of his performance style.

From 1986 to 2000, Arvel toured with a remarkable list of artists, including Glen Campbell, Loretta Lynn, Tom T. Hall, Ray Price, Louise Mandrell, and Clay Walker. During his 13 years in Nashville, he also built a master recording studio and launched his own independent label, Singing Wolf Records. What began as a place to write and record his own work grew into a creative home for hundreds of songs and album projects for songwriters and independent artists.

His career has taken him across the world, with performances in Scotland, England, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, and Canada, as well as prestigious venues including the SkyDome in Toronto, Royal Albert Hall in London, the Smithsonian Museums in Washington, DC and New York, Hochstein Performance Hall in Rochester, and the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. Over the years, Arvel has logged more than 500,000 road miles, bringing his music to symphonies, chamber orchestras, festivals, and concert halls around the globe.

A prolific songwriter and recording artist, Arvel released his 24th and 25th CDs in 2018, adding to a body of work that also includes two EPs and two DVDs. Five of his releases have earned international music awards. Among the most cherished is his classical recording, Tribal Music Suite: Journey of a Paiute, a Celtic and Native American concerto for violin and Native American flute, which earned Best Instrumental Album and Best Producer/Engineer at the Canadian Aboriginal Music Awards. Other honors include Artist of the Year, along with numerous Best Instrumental awards.

Arvel’s music continues to evolve, but the heart of it remains the same. It is expressive, emotional, and deeply human. His 2015 release Celtic Indian reflects the spirit of his live performances, and audiences have continued to connect with the rich body of work that followed, including his Animal Totems recording projects shaped by Native American influence, contemporary sounds, and global musical textures.

Now based in Cottonwood, Arizona, Arvel still connects with audiences the old-fashioned way, live. That is where his music seems to breathe deepest. In concert, his performances are emotionally driven and richly textured, leaving audiences inspired, transfixed, and transformed.

If you love music that crosses boundaries while staying true to something timeless, Arvel Bird is an artist worth experiencing in person.

This is a free event, and a special chance to hear a truly distinctive musician whose work carries both skill and soul.
